Her Smoke Rose Up Forever

Her Smoke Rose Up Forever by James Tiptree, Jr.

Especially the story I Awoke And Found Me Here On The Cold Hill’s Side about human’s in a distant space port longing for sexual encounters with Aliens no matter how physically and emotionally wounding.  I’m not sure why, but this is the story that triggered this project for me.  I began to think deeply about how human-centric all our stories are and how limiting this is to the imagination.  Why do we have to find ourselves or something familiar to us in every story?  Why can’t we enjoy encountering the completely and utterly strange and disorienting?

All the stories in this collection are definitely worth reading but the one’s that jump to mind as being perhaps of specific interest to this project are: With Delicate Mad Hands and Love Is The Plan And The Plan Is Death.
